Mungpoo is a small mountain village in Darjeeling. It's located at an average altitude of about 3,700ft and about 35kms from Darjeeling. From Siliguri you will get cabs and it will take one and half hours to reach at Mungpoo. You will love the journey of Mungpoo because you will get to see beautiful valleys, the famous Sevoke kali temple and beautiful teesta river during your journey. At Mongpoo, you will pass through colorful flower nurseries, tea gardens and crystal clear water streams.

At Mungpoo there is a place called shanty chawk where the local bazaar is situated. This is a typical local bazaar area where small shops and stalls are set up selling daily essentials. This is the main hub of Mungpoo and this is where the locals meet and chat with each other. Threre is another bazaar which is called Nalidara. Adjacent to this bazaar area and perched on a hillock is a Buddhist monastery. It's known as Dinchhen Sherap Chhoeling Gumba.

There is a stairway right from Nalidara which leads up to the old monestry, yogi ghaat, paddy field, sitong, ahaldara and many more ‘beautiful place . Mungpoo is well known for Cinchona plantation and cultivation of other medicinal plants. Mongpu is also famous for being the summer residence of the great poet & Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. If you like nature, lovely valleys & medows,forests, wild lives, birds, flowering orchids & nurseries, gardens & plantations, you should visit mungpoo for atleast once.
